Puppies and kittens need a primary course from around eight weeks, followed by a booster each year. Rabbits need annual cover for myxomatosis and RHD.
Fleas, Ticks & Worms
Treat for fleas and ticks year round and worm every three months as a guide. Weight-based prescription products work far better than shop-bought ones.
Puppy Care
Book a health check within a few days of collection, start the vaccination course, microchip and register, and socialise widely before sixteen weeks.
Kitten Care
Vaccinate, microchip and plan neutering from around five to six months. Indoor kittens still need parasite cover and a routine annual check.
Senior Pets
From about seven years, a check every six months helps catch arthritis, kidney, heart, thyroid and dental problems while they are still easy to manage.
Farm Animal Health
Plan vaccination, dosing and mineral supplementation around the calendar rather than reacting to problems, and review the herd health plan each year.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should my pet have a check-up?
Once a year for most healthy adult dogs and cats, usually at the same visit as the annual booster. Puppies, kittens, older pets and any animal on long-term medication should be seen more often.
What should I do before surgery?
Withhold food from about 10pm the night before unless we advise otherwise, but leave water down. Let your pet toilet before you arrive, and tell us about any medication they are on.
How do I keep my pet at a healthy weight?
Weigh food rather than guessing, count treats as part of the daily allowance, and keep to regular exercise. Our nurses run free weight checks and can set a realistic target.
When is a symptom an emergency?
Difficulty breathing, collapse, repeated vomiting, a swollen or painful abdomen, straining to urinate, seizures, suspected poisoning or a calving or lambing that is not progressing. Phone (025) 33060 straight away.
